About the show

Lear is truly one of Shakespeare’s most intriguing kings. Both a family drama and an epic story of political conquest, King Lear explores issues that affect us all. Ready to split his kingdom among his three daughters, he arranges a contest of adoration, asking each to express their love and devotion to him. When his youngest, Cordelia, says she cannot express her love in words, Lear is outrages and banishes her from the kingdom. His remaining daughters brazenly lie about their love for their father just to get their shares, only to then drive the mad king out of his home. As Lear himself dissolves into madness, so too does his kingdom.
